Jesus, Hope for our Nation

It is Time to Pray for our Nation

Grenfell Tower rainbowThere is little doubt that with the recent terrorist attacks, the Grenfell Tower fire, the General Election result, Brexit, all mixed with fear, uncertainty and every other possible emotion that goes alongside, people everywhere are starting to cry out for direction, stability, help and hope for the future.

Jesus Christ, through the Commission and Compassion He has given His Church – Christian Believers everywhere – is the Hope and only lasting and true answer to the cry.

Prayer is the key that will see a release of The Holy Spirit in our Nation to make that answer a reality in the hearts and lives of individuals in every community up and down our Nation.

It is time - WPCThe World Prayer Centre, Birmingham has published more about this Call to Prayer, together with some specific Prayer Points – read it here – and pray!

Cords that cannot be broken?

This update contains some further thoughts along a similar theme as my last update on May 23 – A Shaking of the Nations:

There is a Christian worship song, now 40 years old, of which the chorus goes:

Bind us together, Lord,
bind us together
with cords that cannot be broken;
bind us together, Lord,
bind us together,
O bind us together with love.

Vote prayThe response to today’s UK General Election result, a hung Parliament, has again further illustrated the deep divisions in our Nation – and I don’t just mean the population as a whole, but within the Christian Community too!

I was quite upset at a thread on Facebook this afternoon where a Christian made a negative comment about the Prime Minister, who is widely believed to be a Christian herself and which was quickly populated by other derogatory even quite caustic responses against her personally, some by other Christians!

I’m reminded of the words of Jesus, recorded in John 13:35 – “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” If that be true, which it is, the opposite must also surely be true?

Elsewhere in the Bible, Jesus talks about a kingdom being divided against itself being unable to stand. (Mark 3:24). Whilst Jesus is specifically speaking about the kingdom of satan, nonetheless the principal helps to explain why fundamentally Society as a whole is unable to truly unite.

However, we who are Followers of Jesus, must demonstrate a love for each other that ensures, at all times, we are strong reflectors of God’s love to our fallen world. If we turn on each other, even if we feel justified in some way, our purpose to spread the Gospel message, will be quickly defeated before we begin.

We do not have to have exactly the same views, be in agreement over politics, other worldly things, or even disputable matters of Christian doctrine come to that, but we must be so careful how we express them.

We are commanded by Jesus himself to stand shoulder to shoulder, bound together with His love. We must be linked with ‘cords that cannot be broken’  – which is the message of Christ dying on the Cross for our sins, raising to life again, ascending back to His Father in Heaven, one day to return to rule and reign.

And may I suggest that the ‘glue’ that holds these cords of unity tight is surely prayer? Let’s pray for our Nation like at no other time and see ‘His Kingdom Come and His will be done, here on earth as it is in Heaven’

A Shaking of the Nations

2017-05-12 10.09.46In the last few months, I seem to keep being reminded of the words of the Old Testament prophet Haggai, especially:

“This is what the LORD Almighty says: ‘In a little while I will once more shake the heavens and the earth, the sea and the dry land. I will shake all nations, and what is desired by all nations will come, and I will fill this house with glory,’ says the LORD Almighty. Haggai 2:6-7.

In fact, a couple of weeks ago I found myself at a regional prayer leaders meeting in Canterbury, Kent and what should be displayed on the wall in the Baptist Church we met in?

This passage, although written with a certain context seems to correlate with another, in the book of Hebrews:

“… now he has promised, “Once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens.” The words “once more” indicate the removing of what can be shaken—that is, created things—so that what cannot be shaken may remain.” Hebrews 12:26-27

Even as I write this today, in the midst of Brexit, the lead up to an unexpected General Election, threat of nuclear war in Asia, an unprecedented President in America, the City of Manchester awoke to the news of the horrific death of many children and young people in an outrageous terrorist suicide-bombing at a pop concert.

A shaking is indeed going on, one which is seemingly undermining our society, the ‘certainties’ of which we have previously been certain. Our ‘rock’ has become ‘shifting sand’. But I believe that in it all, the unshakable God, the I AM, the Alpha and Omega, is slowly being revealed to our Nation and the Nations of the World.

Can there be Revival? A mass turning to Jesus Christ and Lord and Saviour here in the United Kingdom? I believe God wants this more than we do. But He wants all true Christians, His children, to wholeheartedly commit ourselves, ‘hold His hand’ and partner with Him to bring it to fruition.

The Church, the Believers in Christ in this Nation must continue to come together in unity and love. Denominational barriers and those of tradition must come down. We are all One in Christ Jesus if we believe in His atoning sacrifice. All peripheral matters must be left to one side.

In November last year, I wrote an article, published on this site about Regional Hubs, that might well be part of God’s plan to facilitate Call the Nation to Prayer – and indeed to faith in Jesus.  To quote part of that article, “When he [Peter Hill], was in England in April 2016, during a time of prayer, a lady called Clare saw a number of pylons carrying cable across the Nation which seemed to relate to leaders/Intercessors, centres and communications.”

Today, I received a copy of a recent prophetic word, (which I am yet to process completely, so I won’t link to the whole thing), about what seems to be happening in the UK, which included the following:

“Then I saw the Lord take golden wires and attach them to each of the stakes [Mentioned earlier in the prophesy – One was named CONFESSION AND REPENTANCE. One was named VISION AND PROMISES of COMMITMENT. One was named FAITHFULNESS AND COVENANT UNITY.] of the same category in each of the 4 countries [England, Scotland, Wales & Northern Island] . It was as if He [God] was fastening them to each other, so that the British Isles could not be torn apart. 36 lines (4×9) connected all the 4 nations in the UK; holding them tightly together as the land rocked and groaned for a while.”

Here it is again, a reference to wires, cables joining The Church together, holding us steady whilst all is shaken.

I have been certain for a while and many others I believe can see this as well, but we need to connect. Satan wants to divide and conquer, but there is amazing strength in unity in Jesus, through the Holy Spirit.

Jesus says in John 17:21, that they will all be one, just as you, Father, are in me and I am in you. I pray that they will be in us, so that the world will believe that you sent me.”

This is surely the key to seeing the Nation come to know Jesus as Lord and Saviour.

On a personal note, increasingly since the beginning of the year, I have been making connections and building relationships with other leaders of prayer groups, particularly in East Anglia . This is God’s doing, I seem to be meeting people who God is quite simply putting in my path!

I will endeavour to write more about this soon, including some news about a proposed daytime regional meeting on prayer and declaration, to be held in my home City of Chelmsford in the Autumn. Put Saturday November 4th in your diary. More to follow.

Aslan is Coming

2016-12-29-10-38-16Will 2017 be any different to 2016 and all the years before?

Well, my answer is decidedly, YES, Aslan is coming!

If you know the story of the Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, you will remember that the land of Narnia was in a perpetual state of winter, covered in snow. Christmas never came, so Spring could never follow. The white witch had held great power over the land to keep it so. In the story, Father Christmas eventually turns up and declares, ““I’ve come at last. She has kept me out for a long time, but I have got in at last. Aslan is on the move. The witch’s magic is weakening.”
2016-12-29-10-47-11
Last week, on a particularly cold and frosty, but intensely sunny morning, I felt in need of a walk, to pray and to reflect and to listen. As I walked, the sun was slowly rising, and although at this time of the year without great heat, it was nonetheless melting everything that it’s rays were able to touch. Defrosted water droplets dripped from trees like rain and as the shadows receded from frost covered fields, white, turned to green.

I remembered Narnia. I strongly felt that God was saying, winter is nearly over for our City and Nation, Spring is coming, the ground has and is being softened by the prayers of My people. I AM on the move!

However, as our Lord and Saviour Jesus moves, we His people must move with him. It is perfectly possible to stay hidden in the shadows, immersed in the frosty glitter of life, and with our hearts frozen to those around us who are heading for a lost eternity..

2016-12-29-10-36-52I find that God always confirms what He says to me, and the very next day, I received a message from a friend. He had no idea that I had been out for a walk the previous day, nor any of my resultant thoughts. He included this:

I watched the Lion, witch and wardrobe again over Christmas and the thawing out of Narnia occurs after 100 years of ice-cold weather and Aslan the Lion (Jesus) is sacrificed and resurrects pouring out his power against the forces of the white witch and overcomes evil. We should pray that the winter of UK spiritual darkness is passing and that Aslan is roaring to set the people free! More prayer please. …”

aslan
As 2017 begins, it’s time to stand up, move out into the sunlight, to let the Light and love of  Jesus warm and melt our hearts for Him again. We must ‘fall on our knees’ afresh in prayer before our Lord – the Saviour of the World – and then we will be able to fully join with Him as he moves and melts others hearts across the United Kingdom in revival power.

The Lion of Judah is Roaring! Get Ready.

Bless you all for an exciting journey in 2017

Passion for the Nation

passion-for-the-nation-flag-logoOn Monday 21st November, I took a fifty mile drive from Chelmsford and around the M25 to talk to Suzanne Ferrett, the founder of Passion for the Nation. Suzanne also travelled from where she lives in Windsor and we met around halfway between us, in a Starbucks just off of the motorway near St. Albans.

In October, I had been at the World Prayer Centre Trumpet Call event in Birmingham, and having been asked to be part of a small prayer team for the day, found that Suzanne was one of its members. Whilst I did not immediately recognise her, she remembered me from a Christian summer camp two years previously, where I was also on the prayer team. We then sat next to each other during the Trumpet Call event, although we didn’t talk about what we were currently involved in.

A few days later, I received an email newsletter from the World Prayer Centre, which included a link to the Passion for the Nation website. I had not been aware of this organisation previously and was drawn to take a look, immediately feeling that there was a ‘resonance’ between what they were doing and what Call the Nation to Prayer is all about. I then discovered that Suzanne was the founder of the ministry and felt constrained to contact her. Within a few days we had arranged to meet to establish relationship and to explore what God might be up to!

As well as Prayer, Prophetic Declaration and Decree is a most important factor in seeing a Nation changed. Jesus holds the position of both Priest and King , (see Zechariah 6:13) and as Believers in Christ, we have exactly the same privileges. We must realise that our position is in partnership; to ‘intercede’ (Pray) and to ‘rule and reign’, (Declare and Decree) alongside Him. We carry God’s authority to influence the affairs of this earth.

The Passion for the Nation website speaks some more about the power of prayer and declaration, and also publishes regular Declarations that you can use personally or in a prayer group setting. You can also sign up to receive these by email.

Suzanne has also written a booklet containing forty Biblically based Declarations called, Declarations to Change a Nation. I would recommend it to you.

Suzanne and I also shared personal testimony of our journey with God and discussed a number of topics. We parted believing that we had experienced a ‘God ordained’ meeting and to consider and pray about future connections. I will endeavour keep you informed as to developments!

Blessings

David Gilbey – Regional Hubs

Peter Hill believes that Regional ‘Hubs’ may well be part of God’s plan to help facilitate Call the Nation to Prayer.
 .
When he was in England in April 2016, during a time of prayer, a lady called Clare saw a number of pylons carrying cable across the Nation which seemed to relate to leaders/Intercessors, centres and communications.
.
(Read more of Peter’s April visit here).
.

Earlier this year, before I had met, or even heard of Peter Hill, I was praying with a friend who runs a prayer organisation in the London area. My friend saw a small spider hanging from a thread of silk and as we prayed, in essence we felt God was talking to us about the threads of individual prayer groups, churches and organisations, becoming joined together into a strong and connected ‘web’.

Since meeting Peter and spending time talking and praying about CTNTP, this idea has again surfaced, but in the context of  regional ‘Hubs’, situated at key points in the Nation.

Over the last couple of years, I have seen that the larger prayer organisations around the UK are increasingly partnering and seeking to stand together However, I also believe that the many smaller groups that exist often do not know of each other, even if in adjacent localities. I see a need to create and build relationships and unity between them all – large and small.

I don’t see unity being about everyone praying for or doing exactly the same things; on the contrary, from my experience in running Chelmsford 24-7 Prayer, I can clearly see that locally based prayer needs to ‘look like’ the area which it serves. There is history and dynamics both physical and spiritual in any region, city, town or village that must always be considered by those situated in, or called to serve in them. ‘One size fits all’ does not do the job! At the same time larger prayer movements can be great providers of encouragement, resources and information, also setting up initiatives in support and to catalyse what is happening locally.

east-angliaIn August 2016, I was led to go to David’s Tent, 72 hours of worship at a location in West Sussex. There in a marquee devoted to prayer, I saw hanging a large map of the UK, and God spoke to me about ‘connecting’ East Anglia – initially at least in Essex, Suffolk & Norfolk. Subsequently I’ve considered this might include Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire too?

In the context of Hubs’ I am feeling that the time is right, to start to draw together the ‘threads of prayer’ taking place throughout my region.

I am therefore presently engaged in some tentative steps to identify and form relationships with those  who are already praying for their communities and our Nation in East Anglia .

I endevour to provide updates as things develop.

Blessings to you all

David Gilbey
